Celebrating the Foundation’s 20th year
On November 5, 2013 the Shiv Nadar Foundation (SNF) celebrated the beginning of its 20th year. To mark this momentous occasion, SNF launched its first annual report. The Annual Report, 2013 is manifestation of the Foundation's philosophy that governance and transparency in philanthropy would be vital to create a place for India in the global arena of giving back. The evening of the 20th year celebration began with a high decibel panel discussion on 'The Relevance of Transparency and Governance in Philanthropy' with the objective to establish new benchmarks in disclosures and governance in the evolving space of philanthropy in India.
The Foundation Story
The year 1994 marked the beginning of a 20-year journey for a business entrepreneur, who wanted to reinvest his time, energy and efforts towards philanthropy. Inspired by his mother, Shiv Nadar, the founder and chairman of HCL took the first step in the field of education and established the SSN Institutions in 1996.
The route travelled
The Shiv Nadar Foundation is a strong believer of 'Creative Philanthropy' that exists in the form of institutions, which go beyond the lifetime of individuals who have set these up and continue to impact future generations. It is an approach that allows sustained institutionalized philanthropy for long-term high impact socio-economic transformation. Creative philanthropy has the power to drive long term, sustainable, catalytic and multiplier impact. The Foundation has been created on the core philosophy of building lasting institutions of excellence in education to impact not just the lives of individuals but to drive a force multiplier impact on individuals and communities for long-term sustained transformation.
